(In this ongoing series, The Cannata Report’s Editor-in-Chief Scott Cullen checks in with a different dealer each week to find out what’s going on at their dealership, what’s hot, what’s not, and whatever else is on their mind.)
In this installment of “Dealer Check-in,” we touch base with Preston Woolfolk, co-president, DOCUmation in San Antonio, Texas. DOCUmation sells Ricoh, Konica Minolta, Kyocera, Canon, and Lexmark products, and offers a host of managed services, including print, IT, and software. Let’s hear what Preston has to say about what is going on at DOCUmation the week of December 2-6.
CR: What happened at DOCUmation last week?
Woolfolk: We’ve been gearing up for the holidays! Exceptional service is always our focus and we like to use this time of year to thank our customers for letting us serve them. Our support team is like elves, prepping little tokens of gratitude, in and out of the office. We are definitely feeling the holiday spirit around here.
CR: What’s the best thing that happened at DOCUmation in 2019?
Woolfolk: The best thing by far has been the implementation of the Culture Squad, a team put explicitly in place to care for our own employees. They have driven our culture at DOCUmation this year and instilled optimism and encouragement among our team. It is our own team loving on each other in an intentional way and it has drastically changed how much our people feel cared for and valued. Hunter (Preston’s brother and co-president) and I are excited to see how our team dynamic continues to evolve and change next year because of the work of this team.
CR: What types of diversification opportunities are you looking at for 2020 and beyond?
Woolfolk: VoIP still offers great potential for the modern dealer. With the changes to hosted VoIP and the simplicity of reselling options nowadays, I think we would be foolish not to research a market strategy.
CR: What’s going on in the industry that has you concerned?
Woolfolk: Obviously, the decline in clicks. Recent reports show the shift to digital print is the main factor keeping clicks alive. [We want to] take the adversity and turn it into a new opportunity for our sales team.
CR: For anyone visiting San Antonio, what’s the one restaurant that they absolutely, positively have to go for a meal?
Woolfolk: El Marisol! Don’t be distracted by the Mexican food options in San Antonio focused on tourists. El Mirasol is the place to find the best Tacos Norteños in South Texas.
