(In this ongoing series, The Cannata Report’s Editor-in-Chief Scott Cullen checks in with a different dealer each week to find out what’s going on at their dealership, what’s hot, what’s not, and whatever else is on their mind.)
In this installment of “Dealer Check-in,” we speak with Ray Belanger, president of Bay Copy in Rockland, MA, a Konica MInolta and Lexmark dealer. Let’s hear what Ray has to say about what’s going on at Bay Copy the week of Sept. 23.
CR: What’s happening at Bay Copy this week?
Belanger: We’ve got a lot of balls in the air all at the same time with some major account MPS opportunities. We’ve been working on them for a while and they are starting to gel.
CR: What’s segments of the business are doing well?
Belanger: MPS. That’s where our focus has been for a while. It’s taken a long time to get some good accounts in that area. We’re continuing to build on that, so that’s the main thing. And then all the traditional stuff too.
CR: Anything going on in the industry that has you concerned or excited?
Belanger: With all the consolidations and the changes, there is still an opportunity for good independent dealers. If you’re smaller, you can maybe execute better on things that some of the larger companies cannot. I think there’s plenty of opportunities and the main thing is trying to stay focused on what we think we’re good at and where we can make money.
CR: What are your plans for the weekend?
Belanger: We’re going to have nice weather so I’m thinking of going down to our place on the Cape, but that’s not certain. I’m taking my dad out for dinner tonight. I do that a couple of times a month.
