Acquisitions across the imaging industry are on the rise in 2019. Need proof? Just take a look at who has been acquired so far this year.
I don’t have much time to write this before the next acquisition announcement arrives in my email inbox so here goes.
It’s almost a cliché to say that January and February have been busy months for acquisitions. After all, we’ve been saying that consistently for the past 12-18 months. But acquisitions activity the past two months has been extremely heavy compared to last year when we saw a total of eight acquisitions in January and February. Likely you’ve already read our digital coverage of Staples’ acquisition of DEX. But wait, there’s more, more, more and I’m not saying that to the sound of a seventies disco beat.
Let’s recap all the acquisitions we are aware of from the most recent through the beginning of the year.
- Sharp acquired Saratoga Technologies
- Loffler acquired Northern Office Outfitters
- Kelley Imaging acquired Midland Office Equipment
- Staples acquired DEX Imaging
- RJ Young acquired Digitec
- DocuProducts acquired Central Coast Imaging Systems
- UBEO acquired Copyzone
- UBEO acquired Core Business Solutions
- Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A. acquired the ECM business segment of ThoughtTrace
- Kelley Imaging acquired Core Business Services
- Marco acquired Enterprise Systems Group
- Advanced Imaging Solutions acquired Desert Imaging
- Oval Partners (Flexprint) acquired Century Business Services
- Oval Partners (Flexprint) acquired Shamrock Office Solutions
- Novatech acquired Consolidated Copier Services
- Sharp acquired the service contracts of Pink Hat Technology Management

Notice anyone missing among the companies doing the acquiring listed above?
Hint: It’s been one of the most active acquirers in the industry during the past 12 months and a company that announced four acquisitions in the first two months of 2018.
If you said Visual Edge Technology, you are a winner. At press time Visual Edge had not announced any acquisitions in 2019. The last acquisition it announced was of Zeno Imaging on Nov. 15, 2018. Since then it’s been quite the acquisitions drought.
I sent Visual Edge’s David Ramos, chief strategy officer, an email on February 27 to find out what’s shaking but as of today have not received a reply. However, I have learned that Visual Edge is in the process of going through their own internal quality of earnings and due diligence assessment for its next rounds of funding with Ares Management and the process is taking longer than expected. Apparently, we’ve heard there are some deals on hold while it is going through that process and it is expected that quite a few deals will be closing once that process is complete.
