There may not have been many blockbuster news stories in September, but that doesn’t mean it was a light news month. We’ve culled our September archives to narrow down what we consider the top 10 stories of the month from the imaging industry. Feel free to debate their inclusion or other the exclusions of other stories from our list in the comments section below.
Toshiba Partners with Brother International Corp. – The partnership provides Toshiba dealers with access to the Brother Workhorse Series A-4 formatted MFPs, printers, and scanners. The full suite of Brother Workhorse Series color and monochrome models and Brother’s portfolio of customized services and solutions are now available through Toshiba’s network of independent resellers and direct sales operations across the United States. This was an interesting announcement in that Toshiba has been and still is offering its dealers Lexmark A4 devices and printers. We’ve heard that Lexmark is not happy about this new arrangement, however, there’s a distinct possibility that the Brother products will be picked up by smaller Toshiba dealers and may not negatively impact Lexmark in the long run.
Donnellon McCarthy Acquires Tri State Business Equipment – Donnellon McCarthy Enterprises (DME) has announced the acquisition of Tri State Business Equipment, an office supply and technology company in Harrisburg, IL. Tri State Business Equipment has been in business since 1970 and is an authorized Toshiba and Lexmark Dealer offering a full line of office equipment and services. The purchase of Tri State Business Equipment reportedly enables DME to advance its growth strategy, but the extent and range of the DME organization will elevate the level of service and selection for Tri State Business Equipment’s current customers in and around the Harrisburg area.
Fisher’s Acquires Davis Business Machines – Fisher’s Technology announced its second expansion into the state of Montana. Fisher’s has been providing service in the Great Falls, Helena and Billings markets for over a year, and with the acquisition of Davis Business Machines, Inc (DBM), Fisher’s will now provide service to the Bozeman and Butte areas. Fisher’s Technology is an 82-year-old company hailing originally from Boise, Idaho and now operating out of four locations in Idaho and five locations in Montana.
Novatech Acquires e/Doc Systems – Novatech purchased e/Doc Systems, an independent document management and copier dealership servicing Memphis, TN.
WiZiX Technology Group Acquires Assets of CBS Imaging – This acquisition by WiZiX of CBS Imaging in Livermore, CA, will serve as the springboard for WiZiX into the Bay Area market and will be followed shortly by an additional branch office in the South Bay. This purchase is the third completed by WiZiX since October 2017. Prior acquisitions include Stanton Office Machines of Fresno and Scott Technology Group of Sacramento.
BTA Presents Channel’s Choice Awards – Business Technology Association National President John Eckstrom has announced association’s 2018 Channel’s Choice Awards during BTA’s recent conference in New York City. The four awards were presented prior to the event’s welcoming reception. The ballot asked dealers to rate their primary product-line hardware vendors in key performance categories, as well as to rate vendors in three additional award categories “” remanufactured cartridges provider, third-party leasing and wholesale distributor. The balloting results determined the Channel’s Choice award winners. The winners in the four award categories include Primary Product Line: KYOCERA Document Solutions America Inc.’ Remanufactured Cartridges Provider: Polek & Polek; Third-Party Leasing: Canon Financial Services; Wholesale Distributor: Supplies Network.
Frank Cannata Honored by Seton Hall University ““ Frank G. Cannata, CEO and president of The Cannata Report, was honored by his alma mater with the Monsignor Joseph Granato Italian Culture Award bestowed by The Charles and Joan Alberto Italian Studies Institute of Seton Hall University during a ceremony at the university’s Bethany Hall. Cannata, previously honored with the university’s Humanitarian of the Year Award, was recognized for his lifelong support of his alma mater and his instrumental contributions in the creation of a world-class Italian Studies program at Seton Hall.
Canon Launches New Océ ColorWave 3000 Series – Canon U.S.A., Inc. has launched the Océ ColorWave 3000 series of large-format color printing systems. These next generation printers are being launched on the heels of the announcement made earlier this year that over 10,000 Océ ColorWave printers, powered by this technology, have been installed worldwide. The Océ ColorWave 3500 and 3700 systems can handle a wide range of large format applications. With a media capacity of two to six rolls, flexible workflow and IT integration, the Océ ColorWave 3000 series fits into large format environments with minimal operator intervention.
Y Soft Announces Sales Growth – Y Soft Corporation has announced that its sales volume for fiscal year 2018 (July 2017 to June 2018) grew by 45% over fiscal year 2017 to (USD) 45 million, nearly 1 Billion in Czech Crowns, attributed in part to its multi-product platform strategy and SaaS pricing model. In fiscal year 2018, document capture capabilities accounted for 5% of the company’s total fiscal year sales volume representing 15% of the total sales volume growth. Fiscal year 2018 saw an increase of closed subscription sales contract volume of 400% over fiscal year 2017.
Wirth Consulting’s Terry Wirth Passes ““ I was saddened to hear of the passing of long-time industry analyst Terry Wirth, a colleague of mine ever since I started covering this industry as a journalist more than 30 years ago. His passing was announced on the Wirth Consulting website on Sept. 24. Over the years Terry worked for Buyers Laboratory, Industry Analysts, and BERTL, and specialized in equipment testing and reviews, before starting his own consulting firm with his wife Kathy. He was one of the most technically astute analysts in the industry, an excellent source of mine over the years, and one of the imaging industry’s more interesting individuals. Like the Canadian pop singer Corey Hart, no one could rock a pair of sunglasses at night (or during the day) like Terry. He will be missed, and we send Kathy and his family healing thoughts.
