Tournament in memory of industry legend Gary S. Clancy raises money for families in office technology industry to help with college tuition.
The ProCopy Foundation, the non-profit arm of ProCopy Office Solutions is hosting a unique golf event for the eighth time next week.
The 8th Annual Gary S. Clancy Memorial Golf Classic is taking place on Monday, September 17th at the Gainey Ranch Golf Club. Clancy was the president of locally owned Uni-Copy from 1973-1993 when the company was sold. He was a legend in the office machine community and a huge supporter of both the youth of the Valley and all things ASU.
Both the founder and president of ProCopy began their careers at Uni-Copy in the early 1980s and consider him a mentor in many ways.
“I personally learned more about doing the right thing, giving back and “paying it forward” from Gary than from anyone I ever worked with,” said Mike McGuirk, president of ProCopy. “Establishing a scholarship in his name at ASU, a place he loved and supported seemed like the perfect way to honor him. With the rising cost of college tuition, so many families could use the help and we are proud to be a part of way to give back”.
What makes the scholarship so unique is that it is designed to be won by someone in the office machine industry and no one connected to ProCopy is eligible. This means ProCopy will present awards to the families of their competitors in an industry known for cutthroat competition.
“This industry has been good to us and we felt like for one day we can come together in the spirit of good will that really defined Clancy and simply support a family in need,” said McGuirk.
The scholarship reached endowment status through the ASU Foundation in 2014, which means it will live on in perpetuity. The ProCopy Foundation will continue to raise money each year to keep the amount awarded growing. So far over $120,000 has been raised through the seven prior tournaments.
In addition, this year The ProCopy Foundation will be supporting two local charities””Tempe Diablos and the Boys & Girls Club of Tucson””that support youth and families. Many great companies have signed on as sponsors including the Ricoh, Canon, TIAA Bank, Phoenix Suns, US Bank, Konica/MWA Intelligence, Red Mountain Weight Loss, Dircks Moving & Logistics, and Sun Devil Athletics are supporting the event.
