Komori America announced that House of Printing has invested through the purchase of an eight-color, 37-inch Komori Lithrone perfecting press (GL837P advance), equipped with Komori’s LED-UV curing system. The new press will replace a 40-inch Komori press the company has relied on for 22 years. House of Printing chose the GL837P advance to gain the benefits of the latest automation technology, high print quality and significantly faster job cycle time.
According to Tony Willis, vice president of operations for House of Printing, “The expectations of clients when it comes to turnaround times keeps getting faster, so we are excited about the technology advancements we will gain with this press. With the GL837P advance, we can print both sides of the sheet at the same time and with the LED-UV technology, curing is instantaneous. Both were big selling points for us. Gaining speed to market is one of the biggest factors in our decision to purchase this press.”
Willis reports that the intuitive technology of the press is another a key factor in the decision to upgrade to the GL837P advance. House of Printing’s press crew ranges from 30 to 40 years of age and is excited to get familiar with the advanced automation and explore the new capabilities. Equipped with Komori’s KHS-AI self-learning software and the PDC-SX Spectral Print Density Control, the Lithrone G37P advance is designed to maintain high-quality print and quickly begin saving good sheets, even with less experienced operators. Achieving registration and color in just a few sheets, changing jobs in just a few minutes and perfecting in a single pass will allow jobs to cycle through manufacturing in less than half the time of the old method. The compact footprint of the GL37P advance fits conveniently into a smaller area of House of Printing’s existing building, while still allowing them to print the larger sheet sizes suited to the commercial print market.
“We are also looking forward to the substrate flexibility of this press,” said Willis. “The press prints on 40-pound paper all the way up to 18-point board, which opens the ability for us to take on certain print jobs that we had to pass on before. We had such a hard time getting anything lighter than 50-pound through the older presses. As a company, we discussed investing in this press and we concluded that if we want to stay in business for the next 20 or 30 years, we’re going to have to get this press. We are really looking forward to the benefits the GL837P advance will bring to House of Printing and its customers.”
