The company ushers in the new wave of POP production.
Toshiba TEC, which develops, manufactures, and sells Toshiba-branded e-STUDIO color MFPs, has been expanding the use of color MFPs not only in the office, but also in the distribution and retail industries. It’s doing that by enhancing its point-of-purchase (POP) production capabilities. Furthermore, the company is developing applications for the e-STUDIO color MFP for use at various events such as festivals. These applications have expanded by leveraging the Toshiba color MFP’s high-quality printing capabilities on different specialty papers, such as transparent files and magnetic sheets. In addition, the company recently made it possible to print on LIMEX, a specialty paper made from limestone as the primary raw material, newly responding to users interested in sustainable development goals (SDG).
Festivals and events attract large crowds. If the goods distributed or sold there are related to popular characters, people who love those characters are bound to spend money on products with those characters’ images. Of course, the organizers try to prepare enough character goods to distribute to the visitors, but predictions are not always correct. As a result, some products will run out, and there will be a surplus of others. Other conditions, such as weather, may cause the number of visitors to fall below expectations, and it is not uncommon for many prepared goods to be discarded.

The best way to eliminate such waste is on-demand printing, creating products on the spot after receiving an order from a customer. Toshiba TEC is developing applications to use the e-STUDIO color MFP to print transparent files and magnetic sheets with multiple popular characters and designs in color for on-demand printing at these events. Toshiba TEC’s high-level technology enables high-quality printing on water-resistant paper and film for POP production in the distribution and retail industries. At festivals and events, visitors will always have an opportunity to purchase a product, and the organizer does not need to stock goods printed in advance, eliminating waste.
Let’s examine the specialty papers capable of high-quality color printing on an e-STUDIO color MFP for the distribution and retail industries.
- Eco-Crystal. This is a highly durable and functional paper that is resistant to water and oil, and does not require lamination. Even if you create a restaurant menu with this paper, it won’t come off even when wiped with alcohol.
- Eco-Crystal Magnet. These are magnetic sheets that can be printed on. Double-sided printing is also possible.
- Clear Holder. Clear color printing can be done on blank clear holders of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) and paper. Clear holders can be produced and printed with popular characters on the spot.
- Repop. This is a removable sticker created with low-temperature fixing technology that enables color printing on film stickers.
- Laser Illumination film for LED panels. By printing images on film in color, one can create signboards (LED panels) that shine with a backlight.
- LIMEX. This can reduce the environmental impact compared to conventional paper manufacturing. It is more water-resistant and durable than traditional paper. Toshiba TEC proposes printing restaurant menus and disaster prevention maps for local governments with this paper.
