The Cannata Report remembers a pillar of the dealer community who we lost last year.
Life is a precious commodity and should be celebrated by the living, and those that have departed should have their lives remembered. I lost a friend to COVID-19 recently and there was no service, no way we could honor his memory. It is a feeling of sadness that is hard to convey.
The reality of all this has me questioning if we have been doing all that should when one of the members of our industry leaves this mortal coil.
We do our best, but sometimes we should add a little more. The following augments what we posted digitally on August 6, 2019, about the passing of Dave Quint.
Dave Quint, 57, died Thursday, August 1, at MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center. He was born on September 10, 1961 in Dubuque, IA. He left his loving wife Janice Fischels whom he had married on September 9, 1989, in Waterloo.
In May 2019, Dave celebrated 30 years with Advanced Systems in Cedar Falls, IA. He served in many sales capacities and was promoted to President/CEO in July 2012. Dave was committed to the business and truly enjoyed being with his fellow dealers. Advanced Systems represents Canon, Xerox, Epson, and Lexmark and their revenue is estimated to be $20 Million.
Dave was an active member of the Copier Dealers Association as well as the Business Technology Association (BTA), where he served as national president from 2015 to 2016. He received BTA’s Volunteer of the Year award in 2014. He was a member of the University of North- ern Iowa Panther Scholarship Club and was acknowledged by them with a Volunteer of the Year award in 2011.
We reached out to Bob Goldberg and Brent Hoskins of BTA, and I would like to share with you what each had to say about Dave.
“The loss of Dave was unexpected and far too early. I rode an Uber with Dave ten days prior to his passing. He looked and sounded great. BTA has established a David Quint Scholarship Fund. Dave was a remarkable individual. His influence grew wide from his Iowa home. He mentored Dealers and was always avail- able to guide individuals who called upon him. He had excellent relationships with his suppliers for he represented them with integrity.
Dave was a volunteer who felt a strong obligation to give back. I remember when he had a health setback and was concerned, he could not walk his daughter down the aisle for her wedding. The hospital let Dave attend and fulfill his dream.” Bob Goldberg
“In appreciation for his years of dedication and his past service to BTA the organization has set up the David Quint Scholarship. Here is the link: www.bta. org/QuintScholarship, and please send your donations.” Brent Hoskins
We also reached out to a peer of Dave’s, Ron Hulet, project manager at U.S. Business Systems in Elkhart, IN.
“Over the years in this industry and specifically working with BTA dealers as a peer and as an elected officer of the organization, I had the great fortune of meeting Dave while serving as the president of the BTA Mid-America district. As president of BTA (he) proved to be a valuable member of that team. Honesty, loyalty and fun loving are attributes that immediately come to mind (when thinking of Dave). My thoughts and prayers are with his family and I raise a toast to my friend.”
I would like to think that when Dave hit those Pearly Gates there was a sign out that said “Welcome Home.” His life of service to others deserves no less.
